Megabi - Orthodox Wallpapers
Built an Android app that automatically updates the device wallpaper throughout the day to match the Ethiopian Orthodox saint commemorated on the current date, while continuing to work even when the device is offline.
Project Description
Megabi helps Ethiopian Orthodox Christians stay spiritually connected to the daily saints and feasts through automatic wallpaper updates, saint notifications, detailed saint information, and a curated collection of Orthodox wallpapers. Once configured, the app runs in the background and keeps itself updated with minimal user interaction.
Technical Explanation
Developed with Flutter using Workmanager to schedule background tasks that check the Ethiopian Orthodox calendar and automatically update the wallpaper at different times of the day when needed. Implemented an offline-first architecture with Hive for local data storage, allowing wallpaper updates, saint information, and calendar data to remain available without an internet connection. The app also includes local notifications, English and Amharic localization, dark and light themes, and manual wallpaper selection.
